The ascetic practices of the 33rd Sringeri Jagadguru, Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamiji, a great yogi and tapasvi, soared to remarkable heights. Each year, His Holiness would go to Narasimha Parvata near Sringeri and stay there for weeks on a stretch in a small hut. Only one or two attendants would accompany HH. They would remain in separate huts. The guru would sit for meditation and soon would be oblivious to his surroundings. HH would sit for hours and be in communion with Brahman. Once the Great Master sat under the shade of a tree and began meditating. Soon He forgot Himself in deep contemplation. While HH was in that state, a wild bee pierced the thigh with its sharp sting. The wound began to bleed, causing great worry to Sri Srikanta Shastry (Secy) who had observed this. However, he did not disturb Swamiji. When Swamiji got up from his meditation after about five hours, He noticed that the thigh was swollen and the robes were wet with blood. (The Guru by Sri H L N Sastry)

Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada explains this state in a verse of #Viveka #Chudamani:

देहेन्द्रियादौ कर्तव्ये ममाहम्भाववर्जितः ।

औदासीन्येन यस्तिष्ठेत्स जीवन्मुक्त इष्यते ॥

When the Yati's mind is immersed in Supreme bliss-Brahmananda-he will not have external consciousness. This is the state of Jivanmukta. He will have cut off the attachment to the body, since he is in pure awareness.
