Sri Jnanananda Bharati Swamiji was an intimate disciple of the 34th Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekara Bharati Mahaswamiji of Sringeri Sharada Peetham. Born in 1889 with his purvashrama name as R Krishnaswami Iyer, he was a successful practitioner of law at the Madras High Court.

His exceptional devotion to the Guru Parampara of Sringeri Peetham and his exemplary proficiency in Vedas, Shastras, and Vedanta enabled him to make the natural progression as a Jnani. He was blessed to take to sannyasa on 3rd November 1966 on the banks of River Yamuna in Vrindavan in the presence of the 35th Jagadguru of Sringeri Peetham, Sri Abhinava Vidhyatirtha Mahaswamigal. From then on, he came to be known as Sri Jnanananda Bharati Swamigal.

A gifted communicator, Swamiji had authored a large number of works that include Sparks from a Divine Anvil, Stray thoughts on Dharma, Dialogues With The Guru, English translation of Panchadasi and the like.

Swamigal attained Siddhi on April 9, 1975, at the age of 87 in a village called Mannadimangalam in Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. The adhishthana where his mortal body is interred attracts scores of spiritual seekers and disciples of Sringeri acharyas daily. - (From Tattvaloka)
