“In reflecting upon the grandeur of Rama Nama Mahima, a particular episode from the childhood days of our revered Paramaguru, Jagadguru Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamin, springs to mind. At the tender age of seven or eight, the young sage resided near a pond that carried with it a tale of being home to a Bhoota. This eerie narrative kept the locals at bay, rendering the pond a deserted haven.
On one occasion, a spirited debate arose amongst our Guru and his young companions as to who amongst them harbored the bravest heart. The trial of valor agreed upon was a solitary visit to the dreaded pond at the witching hour. While fear tethered the hearts of the other boys, grounding them in refusal, our Guru’s spirit soared with daring resolve. He declared his intention to confront the eerie silence of the pond under the ghostly moonlight.
True to his word, our Guru, at the cusp of eight, ventured alone to the eerie pond when midnight cloaked the village in darkness. He lingered there for a spell, soaking his garment in the pond’s waters as a token of his daring sojourn. Upon his return, the wet cloth bore silent testimony to his bravery, leaving his friends in awe. Word of this courageous endeavor swept through the village, reaching the ears of the elders.
When queried by the elders on the source of his courage that defied even the fear harbored by adults, our Guru shared the resaon of his fearlessness. His heart, he revealed, was a sanctum of ceaseless remembrance of Rama Nama, with the divine form of Shri Ramachandra Moorti a constant companion. This divine communion, he expounded, armored him against the phantasms of trivial bhootas.
Even in those early years, our Guru’s devotion to Rama nama was as deep as it was unwavering. Such is the profound essence of Rama nama. It beckons us to follow the virtuous trail blazed by Shri Ramachandra Moorti, immersing our hearts in the ceaseless remembrance of Rama nama. Through this sacred practice, may we travel towards the divine grace of sadgati. This is the essence of the narrative I wish to share, as it encapsulates the reverence and divine courage nurtured through the chanting of Rama nama.”
