"One who keeps himself away from lust is the highest type of gentleman" Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji quoting Ramayana & Bhaja Govindam . . . :

रामं दशरथं विद्धि मां विद्धि जनकात्मजाम्।

अयोध्यामटवीं विध्दि गच्छ तात यथासुखम्।।2.40.9।।

"Son, don't you be sorry that you are leaving your father and mother, that you are leaving Ayodhya. Consider Rama to be your father and Janaki your mother and the Jungle wherever Rama is - your Ayodhya"... Lakshmana never forgot this advice. He devoutedly served Rama as his father and Sita, as his mother. Therefore, he was prostrating in front of Sita Mata and touching her feet every day. He, therefore, had only an idea of the anklets of Sita and no other jewel! In fact he never looked at her straight. What an exemplary behaviour! What great qualities did our ancestors possess! We have inherited such a great legacy. We are expected to follow such great personalities. Therefore, one who keeps himself away from lust is the highest type of gentleman. Lakshmana was such a great personality who kept lust far away from himself.

Shankara Bhagavatpada has alerted us :-

एतन्मांसवसादिविकारं मनसि विचिन्तय वारं वारम् ॥

These are nothing but a modification of flesh. Fail not to remember this again and again in your mind.

If you realise the reality, your mind will never be tempted. This way, if you analyse and understand the true nature of a thing, you will never develop an undue attachment towards it.
