Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji:
"One of the names of the Goddess in the Lalita Sahasranama is “Bhaasha Roopa” – The Goddess is of the form of the Sanskrit language. (भाषारूपा बृहत्सेना भावाभाव-विवर्जित...)
इदमन्धं तमः कृत्स्नं जायेत भुवनत्रयं।
यदि शब्दाह्वयं ज्योतिः आसंसारं न दीप्यते॥
The three worlds would have been completely submerged in the darkness (of ignorance) were it not for the brilliance of Sanskrit language. The traditional way the language is taught is not only sound in its methodology but is also profound in its significance. For instance, the first word taught in Sanskrit is “Rama” and the next two are “Hari” and “Shambhu” – to show that Hari and Shambhu (Shiva) are but aspects of the same divinity. One must not only gain proficiency in the Shastras, but also cultivate humility along with knowledge. The purpose of education can be fulfilled only if there is a total sense of sincerity driven by the thirst for knowledge. Securing a good certificate or passing with honours is different from securing proficiency in the branch of study. "
