All the scriptures aim at teaching men how to lead a happy life and how to prosper. Every sastra teaches the same. If one follows the teachings scrupulously, there is no doubt, that he would prosper. The #Gita says ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि।। After understanding (your) duty as presented by scriptural injunction, you ought to perform (your duty) here.

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji on "Arrogance vs Awareness":

All the scriptures aim at teaching men how to lead a happy life and how to prosper. Every sastra teaches the same. If one follows the teachings scrupulously, there is no doubt, that he would prosper. The #Gita says ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि।। After understanding (your) duty as presented by scriptural injunction, you ought to perform (your duty) here.

Whatever the Sastra prescribes, follow it well. You will certainly prosper. Neglect it and you will be doomed.

A man turns arrogant for several reasons- wealth, power, status etc. Once man is seized of arrogance, he forgets his duties. "Why should I do all these things? What is there if I do not do; who will question me? I am not answerable to anybody." This will be his attitude-an attitude which is deplorable and destructive.

One should have a fear of God. Whatever we do, is being observed by Him, unseen. Whether you do good or bad he silently watches you. For your good deeds, He will reward you and for the bad, he will certainly punish you. There is no escape. Those who commit evil do it with all arrogance - a don't care attitude. When it finally comes to experiencing the consequences. of his evil actions, remorse sets in. It is said - do in haste and repent at leisure. Had you been wise & listened to sane advice in the beginning, you would not be suffering now.

Always ask your own conscience-Am I doing the right thing or am I committing evil You need not ask anyone else. You answer your own inner counsel. That is enough.

प्रत्यहं प्रत्यवेक्षेत नरश्चरितमात्मनः।

किं नु मे पशुभिस्तुल्यं किं नु सत्पुरुषैरिति॥

You don't ask anyone You question your own conscience. Am I behaving like a gentleman or am I a rogue? Have I behaved like an animal?
