Abusing others is a grave sin even worse than taking a life.

(Even someone lacking true virtue can be perceived as virtuous if others believe them to be. However a genuinely virtuous person loses all dignity by proclaiming their own virtue, even if they are as high-ranking as the king of gods, Indra.)

To abuse others is a great sin. In fact, it is even more sinful than killing a man, There is an instance in the #Mahabharata. Once on the #Kurukshetra, #Karna gave #Dharmaraja a tough time. Unable to bear that, Dharmaraja retreated.

Not finding Dharmaraja on the battlefield, #Arjuna got worried and searched and found him at last. Dharmaraja immediately asked him whether he had killed Karna or not. Bewildered Arjuna replied in the negative and said he had come in search of him. Dharmaraja got angry and said, "If you have not been able to destroy Karna, why on earth do you carry the Gandiva (Arjuna's bow)? Give it to someone else."

On hearing this, Arjuna became annoyed and told Sri #Krishna, "It has been my resolve to kill anyone who asks me to give away the Gandiva. Since Dharmaraja has, I will have to kill him, according to my resolve."

Sri Krishna replied, "Even to think of killing a mahapurusha like Dharmaraja is a great sin and therefore, you should not entertain such a thought. then Arjuna queried how to be truthful to his resolve, Bhagavan said, "You simply abuse Dharmaraja. By censuring a great man, you would have achieved the result of destroying the man."

So, we learn from this episode that even to abuse another person is worse than killing him. It is, therefore, necessary that people lead their lives without praising themselves or talking ill of others." Source: tattvaloka.com
