“What is good conduct? Conduct prescribed by the scriptures and other ancient textbooks is good conduct and avoiding whatever is prohibited by them. If we do not behave in this manner and on the contrary do prohibited things and do not follow the injunctions of scriptures, and at the same time outwardly pose like good men, then it is mere hypocrisy. One who poses like a gentleman in outward behaviour but inwardly harbours evil thoughts, and performs evil actions Is called a मिथ्याचार : – a hypocrite. He cannot be a true gentleman.
One who thinks, speaks and acts in one and the same manner is a noble person. One who thinks of one thing, speaks another and does yet another thing is a rogue.
Still, some of you may feel that being so truthful doesn’t work in this wicked world. However, if your thoughts, speech, and actions are divergent, it will only lead to disaster and your downfall. You will not succeed even in your worldly affairs; you will certainly encounter difficulties. It may seem that such a person initially meets with success and appears happy. Yet, upon observation in the long run, it doesn’t pay dividends. Therefore, our ancestors steadfastly advised us to be truthful in thought, speech, and deed.”
