This body proves to be the foremost cause of very many evil things. The very substance of which it is made is dirty and liable to decay and decomposition. But still, we love it and identify it as the “I” and “Mine” and are quite determined in our desire to protect it. We say to ourselves often: “I must take good care of it and protect it from decay”. But we must also not forget that this is only one of the many that we will acquire in the long run as the sastras proclaim.
सर्वानर्थप्रथमकरणे सर्वभावैर्जिहास्ये
देहे मोहो यदि परिणतः पोषणीयो मयेति ।
आस्तामेवं वपुरिदमिवागामि चास्माकमेवे-
त्येषाप्यास्तां मतिरिति परं धर्मशास्त्रेषु घोषः ॥
