1. The eternal, impersonal Brahman is the only Absolute reality.
2. Contrary to misconceptions, Bhagavatpada never considered the world unreal. In fact, he distinguished Vedanta from Buddhist (Yogachara) ideas that negate the world’s existence.
3. The phenomenon of the universe is due to the power called Maya, (माया) by which that Absolute, without undergoing any change in or by itself, appears to us as an ever-changing succession of phenomena conditioned by time and space.
4. Owing to Avidya, we see diversity where there is unity and many where there is one.
5. The human spirit and the Supreme Spirit are identical. Our suffering arises from the failure to realize this oneness. Only through this realization can liberation be attained.
6. Jnana (knowledge) is the key to liberation, but Karma (work) and Upasana/Bhakti (worship) are essential ways to purify the mind and prepare for ultimate realization.
7. Active investigation is the key to the right knowledge and not a passive acceptance of what others claim.
